What to Expect

Approaching the building. . .

Once you drive into Leclaire Christian Church’s parking lot, you will see two main entrances.  The first entrance is to our main worship area and the second entrance is to the church offices, gym/activity center.  At the doors to either entrance you will be welcomed by one of our friendly greeters who will offer you a smile and a bulletin.

What about my kids?

If you have kids, you can make your way to our kids' program registration tables, where someone will be happy to talk with you and sign in your child.  We’ve developed a good security system so you will know that your kids are safe and well cared for.  All of our youth volunteers undergo a nation wide security check.  If your kids are shy, they are welcome to attend the adult service with you.  However, most children really enjoy the kid’s programs from birth to 5th grade.

What should I wear?

You will notice that people are dressed comfortably, in anything from "office casual" to jeans and sneakers.

What is the worship style?

When you sit down in the worship area you will notice that the bulletin includes a separate “connect card” which serves as an easy way for us to get better acquainted.  You can ask for information, write down a prayer request or sign up for an upcoming activity.  Later in the service everyone will put these “connect cards” in the offering basket.

The service usually begins with some upbeat music followed by a welcome.  We rely on God to help us plan and organize our Sunday services. During these services we draw close to God as we worship in an orderly fashion.

Each worship service lasts approximately 65-75 minutes (believe it or not, it goes by quick).  Our worship band will play a set of 3-5 songs with a contemporary feel (drums, keyboard, guitars, and vocalists).  You will probably hear a mixture of new tunes and older hymns.   During the song set you are welcome to sing along or simply listen.  Throughout the week you may find yourself humming the tunes you heard at Leclaire.

How about the preaching?

The sermons at Leclaire Christian Church usually last between 25-35 minutes.  The messages teach the Bible in a way that isn’t boring.  We tackle real life issues.  We don’t avoid depth and substance.  We enjoy difficult questions and assume that many view the Christian faith through a lens of skepticism.  Sermons may include quotes from contemporary sources like songs, magazines, or movies.  If we do it right, you will hear solid Biblical theology that is communicated in an intelligent, understandable, and entertaining way.

How often do you serve communion?

We celebrate communion every week.  Communion (also known as the Eucharist or Lord’s Supper) is a Christian encounter with God as we remember the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.  If you are a follower of Jesus, you are welcome to share communion with us.  We offer communion every week, however, you do not have to take it each week.  If you are not a follower of Jesus feel free to sit back and enjoy the music or meditate on what God is saying to you.  If you are ready to become a follower of Jesus then tell us so on your connect card.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
We understand what it is like to try to blend in the crowd and investigate something without being singled out. At Leclaire we will not give you a name tag and our preacher won’t ask visitors to stand and be recognized.

As a guest, we want you to feel comfortable and draw close to God and others when you are ready. Our weekly bulletin will include a “connect card” that you can fill out on your first visit or your umpteenth visit. Our services also include a weekly offering, but we understand that people give when they are ready, and thus, we don’t use pressure.

At Leclaire Christian Church you can connect at your own pace.  It is our hope that you continue to come back and gradually open up to God and others.

What happens after the worship service?

After the service you will pick up your kids from their classrooms and then we hope you will stay around and meet some people.  You are welcome to sit in the “Gathering Place” Café and enjoy some coffee or refreshments.  Church is certainly about God and worship, but it is also about community and building relationships.

At our welcome center we have a “gift bag” for first time guests.  This “gift bag” will include some info about our church.  At the welcome center you will find people that would be glad to answer your questions.

That sums up our worship.  Lots of people tell us that they really feel comfortable at our church.  I hope you will stop by this Sunday.
